How we got started:

Leah grew up loving art. She went to arts high school where she studied sculpture, painting, and how different materials work together. After high school, she worked in a grocery store floral department while figuring out what to do next.

She went to university for creative advertising and worked in that field for a couple of years. It was fine, but something pulled her back to flowers. Working with natural materials and creating things that mark important moments in people's lives felt more meaningful. That was almost 20 years ago.

Some projects we've worked on:

We've been fortunate to work on some memorable projects over the years. Leah has designed bouquets for National Ballet of Canada Prima Ballerinas (the large arrangements they hold on stage during performances). She's created floral displays for Toronto International Film Festival corporate events. And once, she decorated a 20-foot Christmas tree for Arlene Dickinson from Dragon's Den, which was both fun and a little nerve-wracking.

Those experiences taught us how to work on tight deadlines and create arrangements that need to look good from every angle. But we try to bring that same care to every order, whether it's for a big event or just because someone wants to brighten their kitchen table.

How we think about flowers:

We approach each arrangement as something that should look intentional, thinking about structure, balance, and how colors and textures play together. It's not complicated, just thoughtful.
Funeral work is particularly important to us. We've created arrangements shaped like sports equipment for someone who loved the game, or used cowboy boots as containers for someone who lived in them. Families share stories about the people they've lost, and we listen. Those conversations stay with us, and we do everything we can to make sure the flowers feel like a genuine tribute.

Day-to-day operations:

Leah is here six days a week, handling most of the design work. Her daughter manages our marketing (she's working on her master's degree right now). During busy seasons like Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, friends help with phones and deliveries.

Fresh flowers arrive at least twice a week. We pay attention to quality because we want arrangements to last. If roses have been in the cooler for about a week, we take them home or donate them. We'd rather do that than risk sending out something that's past its prime.

Being part of St. Albert:

Our shop is at 20-504 St. Albert Trail, right beside Mary Brown's Chicken. If you're giving directions, people usually mention the Wendy's, 7-Eleven, and Tim Hortons corner. It's easy to find.
We're the closest florist to St. Albert Hospital, so we handle a lot of get-well orders. We're also near Ferguson's and Pinkle's funeral homes, which means families often find us when they need sympathy arrangements. We're grateful they trust us during those difficult times.

What we're working toward:

We're focused on doing good work consistently, making each arrangement a little better, keeping our standards high, and building a business that runs smoothly without constant worry.
